Introduction
The Professional Certificate in English programme is designed to enhance students’ command of English for general, academic, business and finance studies and IELTS preparation. The course equips the student with listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. As students progress from one level to the next they become better in conversation, dialogue, writing and research. Students gain greater confidence and learn to use English grammar and vocabulary with contextual accuracy and spontaneity.

Learning Approach
FTMSGlobal Academy uses a combination of functional and communicative approaches to language learning through a formal and informal study environment.
Professional English is incorporated at Intermediate level.
At the Advanced Level students focus on Professional English for academic and professional purposes.

Group Activities and Assignments
In addition to classroom lessons, students are required to spend two hours a day on enrichment programmes to support and strengthen their learning. They have access to library facilities and to online practice materials. Field trips are organized outside of the classroom curriculum. Students are encouraged to apply the English language outside classroom hours.

Delivery Method
Through classroom lectures and tutorials, as well as enrichment activities.
Course Materials
Students are required to purchase course and practice books.
Assessment and Examinations
Assessment is through coursework, oral and written examinations as well as field trips, activities and enrichment programmes. Students receive an exam result slip after each level and, upon successful completion, a Certificate is issued.

Progression
After successful completion of certificate levels, students receive the following awards:
- Elementary 2: Certificate in English - Elementary
- Intermediate 2: Certificate in English - Intermediate
- Advanced: Professional Certificate in English
Upon graduation students can progress to Academic or Professional Courses offered at FTMSGlobal Academy or exit the programme.

Course Module Synopses
Level 1 – Elementary 1 (General English)
This level provides a foundation in grammar and vocabulary. The step-by-step approach to grammar builds confidence and accuracy and a focus on high-frequency words and phrases equips new language learners with a basic vocabulary. A well-structured verbal communication format allows for effective, meaningful practice.
Level 2 – Elementary 2 (General English)
This level uses a fully integrated approach. Learners continue to develop at functional level with focus on Listening/Speaking and Reading/Writing. Students will gain a solid foundation in the four skills, as well as in grammar and vocabulary. Enriching social values and high interest themes are used to motivate students to perform tasks that build their appetite and confidence in the English language.
Level 3 - Intermediate 1 (General and Business English)
This level further develops students' competence in the four skills as they study a larger lexis of more specific words, and assignments become more complex. Authentic listening and reading tasks help strengthen their skills in comprehension and note-taking, effective reading, speaking, writing and discussions. Meaningful engagement of students provides opportunities for practice which will help build confidence and fluency in the language.
Level 4 – Intermediate 2 (General and Business English)
This level gets students ready for tertiary level courses by emphasizing on language and study skills such as inferencing, synthesizing and note-taking. With purposeful integration of critical thinking, students will be able to develop strategies for success in and outside the classroom. With strong emphasis on both fluency and accuracy, students will see significant improvements in the 4 skills of language competency.
Level 5 – Advanced (Professional English)
Students will learn to employ techniques of investigating, explaining, evaluating, summarizing, organization, describing and analysing. At this level SPEED is introduced as it is essential in both Listening and Reading. Student will also learn techniques in Public Speaking, Body Language and Expression. Upon completion of this level, students will have an excellent grasp of the English language to understand academic lectures and/or pursue successful careers. It is also an ideal preparation for students who intend to take the IELTS or TOEFL exam. Students can achieve a score of up to Band 9 for IELTS or 120 for TOEFL IBT.
